In Priscilla’s YouTube video, Releasing Your Grasp #1 she talks about how we often wish we had a testimony…especially when we watch other people who have a story and who have a deep trust in God. We wish we could be like them.
She goes on to say the reason they have a testimony is because they have been “through it”. You have to go “through it” to a deep faith in God.
Sometimes we think of a testimony as an impressive story someone gives from the platform. It is that…but it is so much more. Not many will speak from a platform but all of us have lives that are being watched.
Perhaps your family has gone through it…is going through it now. You and I have a choice. We can allow God to bring us deeper or we can spend our time thinking about how abused we are. “Why Me?” How foolish we are if we choose the latter. We miss all of what the painful experience was meant to bring into our lives and we miss the testimony that God intends. So then, the hard times are just hard times that drive us deeper into self-absorption. The gain we could have is lost. The enemy wins twice.
God loves us so much that He chose to die for us. Now look at what He wants to do in your situation. Your pain sure doesn’t seem like a gift. But God wants to use whatever it is to bring you, and those you are praying for, closer to Jesus. If you knew that God allowed this for the sole purpose of bringing a crucial change in you or your loved one…would you see it differently? But it is never about one person, is it? If one person is drawn closer to God, it inevitably gives the people around him or her the opportunity to have a relationship with Him.
It might seem ludicrous to think that God allowed your situation for any purpose but think about this: If He would die for our salvation and freedom…what other drastic means will He allow/use to finish the work in us! Would He die and then go halfway in his measures to gain a relationship with us and to bring us to the place of touching the lives in our sphere and changing the generations?
Philippians 1:4-6 (NIV) 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
I have seen Him bring loved ones into a closer relationship with Him and closer to those around them through the painful results of their own destructive choices. I have seen others continue to choose badly and ignore God’s offer of a very different and satisfying life. Pain God allows is never just about one person. Each of us has the opportunity to lean into a deeper relationship with God as we are hurt by someone else’s bad behavior or some undeserved pain. Many do not make that choice. Some just chose to be disillusioned and feel picked on.
His purposes are so much greater than what we are going through at any given time. I would say, most of the time we get to see glimpses of His purposes…if we are leaning into His Everlasting Arms rather than kicking and screaming. Yes, we will hurt, we will cry…but we will become more a part of Him.
We will experience greater peace going through the process and then greater purpose and joy throughout the rest of our lives!!
This year…let’s choose wisely…every time!
Your life is your testimony…
Your life is intended to make a difference for the generations…
