Mt. Rushmore

FAITH THINKERS OR FEAR THINKERS…My daughter is at Mt. Rushmore today, experiencing the thrill of gazing up at this “impossible” work of art.  What if Gutzon Borglum had given into fear? The face of this mountain would look very different.

What are your mountains? Do you hope that they will one day look very different? Are you becoming a Faith Thinker or locked into being a Fear Thinker?

I just heard  a sermon by Jimmy Evans. In his series on David, I picked up on things I do not remember hearing before. Below (in italics) is a portion of what he said:

David killed Goliath not because of how he fought but because of how he thought. Once David killed Goliath, mighty men began to arise out of Israel and do phenomenal things they had never been able to do before. This was because they began to learn from David’s behavior…his example and think like he thought.

Anyone could have done what Goliath did had they been thinking like David. Men in his army got stronger once they caught the truth that God was with them. They lost their reluctance…their fear. They became “Faith Thinkers”. All great men of God are Faith Thinkers. Joshua and Caleb were faith thinkers when they saw the giants in the promised land. They wanted to enter and conquer, because they believed God had promised. They believed God! But… everyone else was locked into fear.

“Fear is expecting the devil to move. Faith is expecting God to move. Fear is obsessed with negative consequences of failure. Faith is obsessed with Positive consequences of obedience.

“Saul promised anyone who fought Goliath that he would make them rich, they could marry his daughter and their father’s house would be exempt from taxes forever! That was huge! Still…not one person took him up on it. Fear Thinkers…locked into fear!”

Hebrews 11:6 (NIV) says: 6  And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Make some time to read the full chapter! Reading in context gives you a much stronger picture of Faith Thinkers. It will spur you on!

“Faith thinking is God focused and reward focused. God is! God is a rewarder!

“2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) 7  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

“Nothing is going to happen in this life by fear!”

When I think of some of the circumstances in my life, the life of my family, our churches and our country…I can become afraid. Or…I can make a conscious choice to be a Faith Thinker. That doesn’t mean you and I won’t hit some hard places, but my life experience tells me that through it all…we will be victorious. There will be losses and pain but within all of that…God is bringing about victory.

I believe it because He has said it. I also believe Him (trust Him) because of my history with Him. He is faithful!

So then…why do we sometimes cave to fear and dread? We are human, yes. We are going to feel. But…we have a choice. Let’s be proactive in our quest to be Faith Thinkers.

The journey can be long, yes. But if we choose to be Faith Thinkers…

The results are always…always astounding!
